Inspections to determine the presence of lead paint are required annually for all rental properties and child care facilities in Detroit.

The City of Detroit mandates that property owners of rental property that was built before 1978 must have a lead risk assessment performed to determine and remediate lead based paint hazards.

To obtain a lead clearance, the proper lead paint inspections and risk assessment must be performed by a certified lead inspector and necessary documentation must be filed with the city.

Only State of Michigan certified lead inspectors are capable of performing a valid lead risk assessment and lead paint inspection to enable the property owner to obtain a certificate of lead clearance.
